Shenzhen is located in the southern portion of the Guangdong Province, on the eastern shore of the Pearl River Delta. Neighboring the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong, Shenzhen's location gives it a geographical advantage for economic development.

  • Weather

In Shenzhen, the wet season is hot, humid, and overcast and the dry season is comfortable, windy, and mostly clear. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 55°F to 89°F and is rarely below 46°F or above 93°F.

  • Transportation

Thanks to Shenzhen’s developed economy, it is easy to get there quickly and comfortably by air, train or ship.

What's more, Shenzhen is the only city in China that provides three modes of transportations for simultaneous comings and goings.

  • There’re eight metro lines operating in the city so that the accesses to the major distribution centers like Luohu Railway Station, Window of the World, Luohu Port and Shekou Port are quite easy.

  • There are over 900 bus lines running in this city presently. Regular bus lines, Express Lines, Intercity Lines, Night Lines, Peak Hour Lines and Holiday Bus Lines are the main categories. Most routes in downtown area cost CNY 1 for ordinary bus and CNY 2 for air-conditioned bus. Their operating hours are roughly from 07:00 to 23:00 in weekdays.

  • Besides, more than 16,000 taxis run in the city for the whole day and you could also use shared bikes for short distance travel which normally cost CNY 2 per hour.

  • Attractions

While Shenzhen does not have as many historical attractions as other famous cities in China, it has created a number of excellent theme parks which entertain while teaching visitors about China and the world. 


Splendid China - Folk Culture Villages introduces visitors to China's long history and varied cultures, while Window of the World will take you to every corner of the world in one day. Additionally, if you want to make your stay even more luxurious, visit Happy Valley, the largest of its kind in the city, situated on a picturesque coastline.

  • Economy

In 1980, the first Special Economic Zone of China was built in this city. From then on, the city become a highlight of China, one known for its rapid economic growth. 


Shenzhen also hosts the Shenzhen Stock Exchange as well as the headquarters of numerous multinational companies such as JXD, Vanke, Hytera, CIMC, SF Express, Shenzhen Airlines, Nepstar, Hasee, Ping‘an Bank, Ping’an Insurance, China Merchants Bank, Tencent, ZTE, Huawei and BYD. Shenzhen ranks 12th in the 2018 Global Financial Centers Index. It has one of the busiest container ports in the world.


Due to its unique status as the first Chinese 'Special Economic Zone', Shenzhen is also an extremely fertile ground for startups, be it by Chinese or foreign entrepreneurs. Successful startups include Petcube, Palette, WearVigo, Notch and Makeblock. Shenzhen is also the product development base of the hardware startup accelerator, HAX Accelerator (formerly HAXLR8R).
